Needs – Let's Talk About Money

As “faith supported” missionaries we must raise 100% of our financial support. Some denominations have a denomination-wide mission program which provide their missionaries with support, but that is not true in our situation. This means that we are completely dependent upon Christian individuals and Churches as our only source of funding. Even though we work with a college, foreign teachers receive no financial payment for teaching. We serve as “missionaries” at no cost to the people of Ukraine.

We feel it is good stewardship and a vital part of our ministry to keep supporters who share with us in the ministry informed to the best of our ability. Each month we are pleased to mail a newsletter to churches and individuals in order to provide an update of our activities and each quarter we mail a financial statement to all supporters. Contributors are promptly mailed a tax-deductible receipt and records are maintained on file.

The "need" is for the Lord's work to be accomplished. The need is not to pay the Tranthams' salary or to buy airline tickets. PARTNERS IN MISSIONS is not seeking approximately $5000/mo to meet a budget, but instead to do the work of "Training National Leaders for Ministry." The Bible teaches that all our resources belong to God. He is the giver of all good gifts, which includes all our financial resources. We occupy the position of a "steward" of the resources that God has entrusted to our care.

By training national leaders of the former Soviet Union for ministry, men and women will come to know Jesus Christ and his eternal salvation, and this is the only reason for financial support of PARTNERS IN MISSIONS. We are truly thankful to God for the way he has worked through your generosity, and we try to use each dollar in the wisest possible way.

Each month we are dependent upon God's provision through your financial giving when you take time to write out a check and send it to:

Special Projects

Our main work in Ukraine continues to be that of "Training National Leaders for Ministry." This is mainly accomplished by teaching at Odessa Theological Seminary and working with students, but this also includes much involvement in the local church. During the time of Communism, the economy of Ukraine was State controlled. This meant that the government set wages, controlled prices, availability of goods and services, and regulated the economic activity of its citizens. Part of this control included the regulation of religious expenditures. Church buildings were not allowed to be constructed, religious books were not allowed to be printed, Bible colleges were not allowed to be built or to operate, and being a "preacher" was not considered a legitimate occupation. These past, and present realities, combined with the current economic difficulties, make it very difficult for Ukrainians to provide the funding needed for many needed evangelistic activities. The current situation creates an opportunity for foreigners to help financially with special projects in Ukraine.

How Can You Help? It is our firm conviction that Ukrainian Christians, can and should, provide the ongoing daily expenses needed for ministry. As foreigners, we do not want to provide funding for ministries that cannot be maintained by nationals. However, there are a number of special projects where foreign support would allow for the creation of a strategic ministry activity that would otherwise not be possible.

Special Projects: If you want to spend money in Ukraine, there are lots of places to put your money, but many of them would not be good stewardship. Unfortunately, much foreign money has been "wasted" in the past. We want to avoid such "feel good" spending of money and be certain that all funds are used to their fullest potential. We have selected several projects with which we are personally involved and which we have investigated and are well aware of the circumstances and needs. We feel we can recommend these projects as some of the most effective ways to support the work of the Lord in Ukraine. And we would like to invite you, your Sunday School class, Mission Ministry, or Vacation Bible School to become involved by supporting these worthy projects. Funding can be sent to our mission account and we will personally see that the funds are used as intended. Because these projects continually change, you should use our “Contact Us” page for the most recent and most appropriate needs.
